Project Update, Summer 2025:
The Vine Road Project is moving along, slowly but we hope surely.
We hope to submit a full planning application to the council later this year. As part of the application, we will have to submit some more detailed plans for some elements of the park, one being the proposed skate park. This is where you can help! If you are interested in the Vine Road Project and the skate park, we would love you to get involved.
Everyone is welcome and there are opportunities for people with different skills and availability:
The working group will engage local people of all ages in focus groups and workshops, helping us raise awareness of the project and encouraging people of all ages and abilities to get involved. We would love this group to actively engage in ideas for the design of the skatepark that will eventually help inform a detailed plan for submission to the council. Having some design experience would be very valuable to this group, but not essential. If you’re looking to share your creativity, this is the group for you!
Skating enthusiasts are welcomed to skate with our temporary ramps, regularly or ad hoc. If you have experience working with young people, we would love you to help us offer open sessions on a regular basis.
Of course, if we do get planning permission, we will need to raise the funds to make this project happen. If you have experience of fundraising and in particular for sports related activities, we would love to hear from you.
If you’re not sure but want to help, get in touch anyway, we’ve got something for everyone. You can contact Jackie at [email protected].
SAVE THE DATE – Saturday the 16th of August: Later this summer we will host an informal drop-in consultation, providing the local community with the opportunity to see the latest plans and offer their comments and feedback.
Attend a growing workshop and learn about the wonderful world of herbs, stay to explore the project, taste some produce and learn how to get involved.
We very much hope you will attend.
Previous updates:
Project Update, Autumn/Winter 2024:
We have had a busy summer working with the architects and a planning advisor and were delighted to launch the updated Master Plan at our recent Autumn Fayre. You can see the plans below or download them as a PDF document here.
We would once again like to hear from the community so do have a look at the plan which is displayed in the noticeboard outside the pavilion at Vine Road Recreation Ground and look out for upcoming public consultations.
We have submitted the Master Plan to the council pre-app team and are waiting to hear back for a meeting to discuss the plans. We hope this will happen before the end of the year.
Thank you as always for your support and patience, this has been a long process so far, but hopefully there will be some momentum in the coming months.
In the meantime, if you’d like to get involved or hear more about the project, please get in touch. You can contact Jackie at [email protected].
We are also looking for volunteers to lead working groups, to help engage the skating community, to do some fundraising, and more!
Watch this space for future updates.
Event Update, June 2024:
Join the growing community of skaters at Vine Road Park and come along on our Skate Demo Weekend (29-30 June). Bring your skateboard, scooter or roller blades and practice your skills on our temporary ramps. Learn tips and tricks from other keen skaters.
Tell us what you want from a skate park, sign up to receive updates and join future events and workshops. Everyone is welcome at these free events! Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. No need to register for a ticket but it helps us to gauge interest: details and tickets are on Eventbrite.
Project Update, February 2024:
The Vine Road Project is still in the planning phase. Due to some small changes and unforeseen circumstances, it has taken a little longer than expected.
We are working closely with the architects and a planning advisor, and hope to submit the planning application to the council this spring or early summer. Once we have an updated Master Plan, we will host some informal drop-in sessions to share the updates and answer any questions.
In the meantime, if you’d like to get involved, please get in touch. Contact Jackie at: [email protected]. We are looking for volunteers to lead working groups, to help engage the skating community, to do some fundraising, and more!
2023 update:
The Vine Road Project successfully gained the support of the Richmond Committee on Environment, Sustainability, Culture and Sports. This is a great step forward for the project, and will allow us to progress to the next phase of design and community consultation, with the goal of applying for planning permission as soon as possible. In order to create further designs, we will need feedback from the community. We will also be conducting surveys, both in person and online, so please keep an eye out for more information.
As part of this design development, we have been looking for guidance from local skaters on what they would like to see from a skatepark at Vine Road Park. In partnership with our friends at Kimber Skatepark, we led a tour of three skateparks to see what participants liked, disliked and ideas they had for Vine Road. We had a wonderful time visiting Crawley, Long Grove and Kimber skateparks, skating, scooting and even playing some basketball. Everyone had fantastic ideas and provided excellent insight in to what we could do to make an inclusive, accessible, and fun space. Thank you to all who attended!
If you are interested in participating in further consultation for the Vine Road Skatepark, or the park in general please contact us. We are always open to feedback on the Vine Road Project, email us here.
Be Part of the Vine Road Park Conversation!
We are delighted to see so much interest and support from across our community.
The online survey has now closed, but the draft Plan can still be viewed here. Why not bookmark this page for project updates and opportunities to get involved?
Together, we can do this!
