Nature Conservation

Barnes Conservation is part of BCL and is responsible for delivering nature conservation work across multiple sites within the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. We undertake a broad programme of practical conservation management and ecological survey work.

Our practical work spans a wide range of habitats, from river restoration projects and veteran tree management to the conservation of grassland and woodland habitats. We are passionate about ensuring that all our work is grounded in robust, evidence-based practice, and where appropriate is supported by comprehensive pre- and post-intervention monitoring.
Alongside this, we aim to remain at the forefront of current research and actively develop innovative research projects that contribute to wider knowledge and understanding in practical conservation.

Our survey work covers both species and habitats. We participate in numerous national monitoring programmes, including SmartRivers, Riverfly, BioScan, UKBMS, BSBI Flower Hunt, and the National Amphibian Survey, among many others. We are also involved in pre- and post-survey work for habitat restoration and creation projects and can undertake ad hoc habitat and species surveys as required.

Across all strands of our work, we are fortunate to be supported by a dedicated and highly skilled team of volunteers, who play a vital role in the success of our conservation activities.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.
