You are invited to join our free monthly training sessions to learn more about growing food in harmony with nature. The sessions will introduce you to seasonal topics such as seed sowing, looking after seedlings, and seed saving. We will also introduce the approaches to growing food that are used at the Vine Road Community Growing Project, such as managing soil health through no-dig, composting and water-wise gardening. The sessions provide a practical and supportive way to build skills and confidence in growing your own food. Come and get your hands dirty!
Sessions run at our polytunnel at Vine Road Park every 3rd Saturday of the month from 10am to midday (see exceptions on the calendar), with a new topic each month.
November 18th: Soil Health and Composting
Soil is much more than just dirt! Soil health is one of the most fundamental aspects of growing food crops. Without healthy living soil, plants can struggle to thrive and become open to pests and disease. At the Vine Rd Community Growing Project, we make our own compost to feed the soil and follow a no-dig approach to help protect our soil structure and cultivate the soil ecology. In this session we will look at how to cultivate healthy soil, as well as explore the in’s and out’s of making compost.
