Summer Talks: Vertical Veg: Container Growing

6:30pm, Wednesday September 18th, 2024

Online Event,

Mark Ridsdill Smith will explain in this online talk how you can grow veg, fruit and herbs in containers on your balcony, patio or rooftop.

Join us for our final session of our Summer Talks series this year, offering talks on nature, growing and ecology. We are delighted to welcome Mark Ridsdill Smith, author of The Vertical Veg Guide to Container Gardening, who will give a talk titled 'How to Grow to Veg, Fruit and Herbs in Containers on your Balcony, Patio or Rooftop... And Make the Most of a Small Space' via Zoom.

Mark started Vertical Veg to inspire and teach people who don't have gardens to grow vegetables, salads, herbs and fruit in containers on their balcony, patio, rooftop or front yard.

He demonstrates that it IS possible to grow a LOT in a small space - enough to make a significant difference to what you eat. He also gets excited by how growing at home, even in very small spaces, can help us eat better, feel more connected to our local community, interact more with nature, and live with a lighter footprint.

As well as writing the Vertical Veg blog, Facebook Page and running workshops, Mark's work has featured on BBC TV and Radio (including Gardener's Question Time, twice) and in the Guardian and Telegraph. His book, the Vertical Veg Guide to Container Gardening, won the 2022 Garden Media Guild Award for Best Practical Gardening Book.
