Living in Barnes is a privilege, we are lucky to be so close to some beautiful green spaces: the Leg o’Mutton Local Nature Reserve, the Beverley Brook and, of course, our beautiful Common are all a stone’s throw away and offering numerous opportunities to connect with nature while looking after our mental and physical wellbeing.
Looking after these sites, conserving them for today and future generations comes at a cost, and we are lucky to be funded by our local council for some of our work, as well grant givers, donors and members (not to mention the thousands of hours donated every year by our wonderful and skilled volunteers). However, a financial gift, large or small to a cause you feel passionate about could help us achieve our long-term conservation and biodiversity goals and could be transformative!
If you are looking for a way to give back to your local charity this festive season, why not consider upgrading your membership and becoming one of our Keystone Friends for £50 per year. You will benefit from 25% off tickets to our events for you and up to 4 guests, as well as occasional Keystone Friends’ events.
If you want to do a little more, consider leaving a legacy to the community!
Our Chair Mike Hildesley says, local surveys show that living in a green and leafy borough filled with valuable open spaces is more important for choosing to live here than any other reason. The proximity to open space adds on average, over 2% to property values, which is likely to be even higher in urban settings. Certainly, evidence from property sales in Barnes suggests the premium is probably in excess of 10%, and in some exceptional cases it may be 50%! All of us who own local property might care to reflect on how much of the increase in value we have enjoyed is due to our wonderful open spaces and our community.
By leaving a gift to Barnes Common in your will, you can make a lasting, meaningful contribution to our community, enabling us to continue to protect and conserve our green spaces for everyone, now and in the future.
