Our Trustees

Crispin O’Brien
Crispin has 15 years experience as a charity trustee including at Thames Reach, the £22m London based homeless charity, and as Chair of FiSH, a local neighbourhood care organisation.
He has extensive experience of finance, fundraising and risk management and some knowledge of outcome and impact measurement and community engagement.
He has been an adviser to Help Tibet, Blueprint for Better Business, Resonance, (a London arts radio station), Pestival, (the insect arts festival) and the New Economic Foundation, where he helped set up their consultancy and worked on measuring Wellbeing and Social Return on Investment.
Crispin is a chartered account and a fellow of the ICAEW with 31 years financial experience in London, HK and Tokyo, including 17 years as a London Partner. At KPMG, he worked with the Prince’s Trust and Business in the Community.

Dr Myszka Guzkowska  
Dr Myszka Guzkowska is an Environmental Scientist whose doctorate from Oxford University was on ‘The effects of stormwater runoff on the chemistry and biodiversity of urban lakes’. She also has a Masters in ‘Forestry and Land Management’ and an MBA. She then went on to work in Space Science and Climate Change at Mullard Space Science Department, UCL. She was Pro Rector of Roehampton University, Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Westminster and Deputy Vice Chancellor of Manchester Metropolitan University. She had a parallel career in the Army Reserves, retiring as Deputy Commander of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. She has had numerous governance positions, including NED positions on 2 Defence Agencies, national Advisor for the DFEE, regional advisor for London District and for the SE Regional Development Agencies, among others. She currently holds several governance positions with a range of educational, military and conservation charities.

Mike Hildesley
Mike Hildesley has been a Committee Member of the Friends of Barnes Common 1998 – 2013 and the Chair of Barnes Common Limited since its incorporation in 2013. Mike has extensive experience in Finance, M&A, Risk management, Charity management, Conservation, Negotiation Skills Training. After spending nearly three decades as an Investment Banker with Morgan Grenfell/Deutsche Bank, he went on to become a Governor / Deputy Chair of the Trinity College of Music/Trinity Laban, Chair of Blackheath Halls Limited, as well as a Trustee/Chair of Trinity College London (Examination Board). He was  Independent Non-Exec Director of KMG Insurance Underwriters and is currently the Vice Chancellor of the Wine Guild of UK. His interests include Biodiversity, Climate Change Resilience, Community Engagement, Music and the Arts, History and the preservation of Commons and rivers.

Adrian Podmore
Adrian has been involved with Barnes Common since volunteering with TCV in the early 2000’s, going on to be manager for three years when our initial contract began with LBRuT and seeing the start of new projects such as the Growers at Vine Road and the orchard at the Goods Yard.
A keen birdwatcher, Adrian has a post grad diploma in ecology and conservation and has volunteered for several organisations over the years, particularly Surrey and Sussex wildlife trusts and the RSPB. He also holds a dormouse license.
Originally with a background in in investment accounting, he is now the treasurer and as a trustee, tries to actively support our staff in their roles to ensure our remarkable, but vulnerable, green open spaces continue to play a vitally important role in not only reversing recent biodiversity declines but also helping with wellbeing.

Christopher Thomas
Chris became a Trustee of Barnes Common in 2013. Prior to that he was a committee member of the ‘Friends of Barnes Common’. His family has lived in the Barnes area on and off since 1975. Chris qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1969 and after working in the US and the Caribbean returned to the UK, working mainly within the private food sector in various general management roles. Currently he is a non-executive director of Sayle Screen – an independent theatre / film agency and assisting small private companies in a consultancy role. He was a JP from 2007 – 2015 – sitting in various Central London courts.

Ian Tottman
Ian has lived in Barnes since 1992 and began his relationship with Barnes Common as a volunteer. He’s been our trustee since 2021. Ian’s career included a range of board level roles in marketing and sales within FMCG categories. He contributes both as a volunteer and a trustee with expertise in fundraising, communications and strategy.
