Step Free Access To Barnes Station Is Coming

Step Free Access To Barnes Station Is Coming

In April, Network Rail will start on a project to make Barnes railway station fully accessible.

The scheme at Barnes station will comprise the installation of a new, open footbridge at the eastern end of the existing canopy. A lift and staircase will serve each of the outside platforms as well as the central island platform, thereby providing a fully accessible route to and between platforms.

Ground Clearance Works

Construction works will use part of the former goods yard for crane operations and as a work compound/access. Care has been taken to protect as much of the orchard and land of high conservation value as possible. As part of the preliminary preparations we need to clear a strip of ground in this area to provide access. Ecological surveys have been done, mature trees are being protected, and we are undertaking this ground clearance now so it is ahead of the nesting season to avoid unnecessary disturbance.

For enquiries about the use of the former goods yard, please contact [email protected] Further details on the Access for All programme can be found by visiting the Network Rail website.

Further details about the local project will be provided shortly and there will be a drop-in consultation for local residents and stakeholders to speak to the project team and see a presentation about the project.

This will take place on Thursday 20th April 2023 from 3:30-6:30pm. Please note a change of venue, this event is taking place at the Vine Road Pavilion, Vine Road, London, SW13 0NE.
