You may remember that just over a year ago, in partnership with the Council’s Highways department and as part of the Community BlueScapes project, we fixed the road gullies on Rocks Lane between Station Approach and Mill Hill Road in a bid to reduce the flooding along the road. Since then, we are pleased to announce that we have seen a marked improvement in the amount of water that stays on the road.
In order to keep the new drains and the connected ditches on Barnes Common taking the flood water we are now looking to fill these ditches with gravel. This will prevent the ditches collapsing from erosion or filling up with leaves and other debris.
In July this year we hosted a team of students from St. Paul’s school who helped to shift 5 tonnes of gravel into one of the largest ditch networks. We are extremely grateful for their help. We have several ditches left to fill and have planned for a number of volunteer days to do so. So, if you want to help out or give back to your community this festive season, then please sign up. We have a range of morning and afternoon sessions and hot drinks, mince pies and biscuits will be provided.
