Join us for a morning history walk led by our Chair, Mike Hildesley and enjoy a fascinating insight into the lives and times of those who lived in the area and worked in the market gardens of Barnes.

Members of the Barker family, the original landowners and market gardeners will be coming along on our walk on Saturday morning.

This will be a chance to explore ‘living history’ through the family’s reminiscences, to explore the ‘golden era’ of Barnes market gardening, the impact of population growth and the railways as well as gain more understanding of what it takes to grow fruits and vegetables commercially.

This walk will last approximately two hours.

This walk takes place outdoors and as such please dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy footwear.

If the weather is warm, you may wish to bring a bottle of water.

We will start and finish the walk at the Pavilion on Vine Road Recreation Ground.
