Aging Well: a tree walk and poetry workshop on Barnes Common. Learn about trees and reflect on their lives through basic poetry prompts.
On our Autumn Tree Walk we will explore aging as a natural and necessary process in all living things. Our work here focuses on protecting the oldest members of our tree community and enhancing the ability of the others to age well.
This walk is for everyone in the community, and has been planned to be suitable for older people and those living with dementia, as part of our commitment to Dementia Friendly Communities Richmond. We will prompt participants to reflect as we walk through poetry and consider their own roles in their community, including how the knowledge and wisdom of elders can be passed on, and how we can foster a local and wider culture that respects and cares for the aging members of our communities in the same way we do in ecological contexts.
This walk will be approx 2km. This walk covers a mixture of paths and unpaved surfaces. Please let us know in advance if you use mobility aids so that we can adjust our route if necessary.
This walk will cover different types of ground conditions, so sturdy waterproof footwear is recommended and as the event is entirely outdoors, we remind people to dress appropriately for the weather on the day.
Bring a bottle of water or hot drink with you for the stroll if you wish.
The walk will begin at the Vine Road Recreation Ground near the Pavilion.
Please note, dogs will not be admitted at this event except guide dogs. All our events are dog free unless specifically mentioned in the event listing.
