Eco-Explorers – Bird Box Building Workshop (PM)

1:30pm, Tuesday February 18th, 2025

Vine Road Recreation Ground, SW13 0NE

A workshop for 10-14 year olds, to build your own bird nesting box in time for this years nesting season!

This event is part of our Eco-Explorers programme for 10-14 year olds and accompanying adults. Join us to learn practical skills and support local wildlife!

For this activity we will be supported by a local volunteer who has supported young people at a local Scouts group to build bird for several years. We will guide each participant through the steps to safely construct their own small nest box, which can be taken home and placed in a suitable location ready for the spring!

To ensure safe working, all young people must be accompanied by a parent/carer for the full event duration.

In the workshop each participant will:

  • Learn about the importance of nesting spaces for bird life
  • Measure and cut out all the pieces to construct their bird box
  • Use power tools and hand tools to construct the box
  • Leave the workshop with a completed bird box!

All tools and materials will be provided along with basic safety equipment. Booking essential to ensure we have enough for everyone. Whilst this event is indoors, hard-wearing clothes and sturdy shoes are recommended - no loose fitting clothes such as unzipped jackets, no open toed shoes, and hair must be tied back when working. Snacks will be provided part-way through the event.

This activity will take place at Vine Road Recreation Ground Pavilion.

TICKETS: All proceeds from ticket sales will support our conservation work and future learning events and we would encourage you, if you can, to pay full price. We do not want cost to be a barrier to our activities, as such we have a limited number of discount concession tickets available, please select these if you cannot afford the full event cost. We also have a donation option if you are able to add an extra contribution - this will support our ability to offer discounted tickets in future.
