Growers’ Training: Companion planting

10:00am, Saturday May 18th, 2024

Vine Road Recreation Ground, SW13 0NE

This month we will look at how common plant pairings to deter pests, attract pollinators and provide nutrients.

You are invited to join our free monthly training sessions to learn more about growing food in harmony with nature. The sessions will introduce you to seasonal topics such as seed sowing, looking after seedlings, and seed saving. We will also introduce the approaches to growing food that are used at the Vine Road Community Growing Project, such as managing soil health through no-dig, composting and water-wise gardening. The sessions provide a practical and supportive way to build skills and confidence in growing your own food. Come and get your hands dirty!

Sessions run at our polytunnel at Vine Road Park every 3rd Saturday of the month from 10am to midday (see exceptions on the calendar), with a new topic each month.

April 20th - Companion planting

During this session, we will look at what plants grow well together.  Companion planting is a technique of growing a plant which provides benefits to another plant in the same growing space.  You will learn about common plant pairings to deter pests, attract pollinators and provide nutrients, and have the chance to take part in plenty of practical activities.
