You are invited to join our free monthly training sessions to learn more about growing food in harmony with nature. The sessions will introduce you to seasonal topics such as seed sowing, looking after seedlings, and seed saving. We will also introduce the approaches to growing food that are used at the Vine Road Community Growing Project, such as managing soil health through no-dig, composting and water-wise gardening. The sessions provide a practical and supportive way to build skills and confidence in growing your own food. Come and get your hands dirty!
Sessions run at our polytunnel at Vine Road Park every 3rd Saturday of the month from 10am to midday (see exceptions on the calendar), with a new topic each month.
21 December - Regenerative principles for urban growing
Regenerative Growing has become more popular in recent years, as large and small scale growers seek alternatives to damaging agricultural practces incorporates learning from sustainable agriculture, permaculture, as well as ancient and scientific growing knowledge. Alongside the growing of food, this approach seeks to regenerate the soil, water and the wider ecosystems of growing spaces. This is good for growers and nature alike. Growing in a regenerative way can improve the nutrient density in food! This approach is adaptable to both large scale farming, as well as urban food growing, such allotmenteering and community growing.
This talk will take place in the polytunnel in our growing area at Vine Road Rec. Hot drinks can be purchased from the Vine Road Community Café in the Pavilion with a 50% discount for attendees.
