This event is held as part of Richmond Great Big Green Week, a national week of community action from 10 to 18 June 2023 to tackle climate change and protect nature.
You are invited to join our free monthly training sessions to learn more about growing food in harmony with nature. The sessions will introduce you to seasonal topics such as seed sowing, looking after seedlings, and seed saving. We will also introduce the approaches to growing food that are used at the Vine Road Community Growing Project, such as managing soil health through no-dig, composting and water-wise gardening. The sessions provide a practical and supportive way to build skills and confidence in growing your own food. Come and get your hands dirty!
Sessions run at our polytunnel at Vine Road Park every 3rd Saturday of the month from 10am to midday (see exceptions on the calendar), with a new topic each month.
June 17th: Succession Sowing & Follow-on Crops
With a bit of planning and by taking care of soil health, it is possible to grow multiple crops one after the other throughout the year. This can help increase produce and get the most out of growing spaces. In this session you will learn how to consider when to start follow-on crops and which crops grow well in the same growing space.
