The Polytunnel at Vine Road Recreation Ground, SW13 0NE

This month we will will explore water use for growing food crops.

You are invited to join our free monthly training sessions to learn more about growing food in harmony with nature. The sessions will introduce you to seasonal topics such as seed sowing, looking after seedlings, and seed saving. We will also introduce the approaches to growing food that are used at the Vine Road Community Growing Project, such as managing soil health through no-dig, composting and water-wise gardening. The sessions provide a practical and supportive way to build skills and confidence in growing your own food. Come and get your hands dirty!

Sessions run at our polytunnel at Vine Road Park every 3rd Saturday of the month from 10am to midday (see exceptions on the calendar), with a new topic each month.

July 20th - Water use for growing

In this session we will explore water use for growing food crops. With weather extremes more common, it is more important than ever to carefully work with water resources. Water is essential to every stage of raising healthy crops and knowing how to minimise water loss from the soil and understanding your plants' watering needs will support abundant crops. We will also look at our water capture, storage, and irrigation system, and if the sun shines, our solar pump!

This talk will take place in the polytunnel in our growing area at Vine Road Rec. Hot drinks can be purchased from the Vine Road Community Café in the Pavilion with a 50% discount for attendees.
