Volunteer with Community BlueScapes to help reduce flooding on Rocks Lane and Station Road!

Volunteer with us to help reduce flooding on Rocks Lane and Station Road by moving gravel into the new drains that direct rainwater off the road and into Barnes Common.

New drains along both Rocks Lane and Station Road are designed to move rainwater into the common and reduce flooding on the roads. We are increasing the amount of water on the Common and improving its chances during drought conditions in the future.

In August, with the help of local school children, we started filling up the trenches with gravel to help the new ditches last and make it safer for people enjoying the Common. Now it’s your turn.

Spend a morning, afternoon, or both making a difference. You’ll learn about how you can:

  • Tackle the impact of climate change.
  • Reduce the risk of flooding.
  • Become more flood resilient.
  • Increase biodiversity and wellbeing at the same time.

All equipment will be supplied. Meet us at the Pavilion on Vine Road Rec.

Minimum age 16+. Please arrive on time. Tea coffee and biscuits are provided but do bring a water bottle and a keep cup for your tea or coffee.

REGISTRATION:

We welcome everyone at this volunteering session. Please note, to take part, you need to fill in our conservation volunteer registration form to make sure our insurance covers you.

If you are a regular volunteer and have already filled in the form, there is no need to do this again.

Communities have the power to tackle climate change and make our neighbourhoods better places to live in now. Community BlueScapes is all about giving local people power to prepare for extreme weather events like flooding and restoring a more natural environment.

Community BlueScapes is a partnership between Barnes Common Limited, the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust and London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.

Our project is run by Barnes Common Limited, the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust and London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. We have been awarded £6 million of funding by Defra as part of the £200 million Flood and Coastal Innovation Programmes which is managed by the Environment Agency. The programmes will drive innovation in flood and coastal resilience and adaptation to a changing climate.
