Vine Road Recreation Ground, SW13 0NE

Join young naturalists Şeniz and Akash as they share their passion and knowledge, and discover the birds of Barnes Common!

This gentle walk for young adults (aged 18-35) will explore the various habitats of the Common, in search of the birds that live, breed, and feed here. Autumn is a busy time of year for many birds, and our expert guides will highlight their behaviours and characteristics as we walk. Whilst we can’t guarantee exactly who we’ll see, keep your eyes peeled in the tree canopy for Nuthatch or Great Spotted Woodpecker, and down on the ground for Green Woodpecker or Jay.

  • This walk will be approx 2km and covers a mixture of paths and unpaved surfaces. We will walk as a group around the Common but we will be mindful of people who would prefer to set their own pace.
  • This walk will cover different types of ground conditions, so sturdy waterproof footwear is recommended and as the event is entirely outdoors, we remind people to dress appropriately for the weather on the day.
  • Bring your own binoculars if you have some, but don’t worry if you don’t – we’ll have some to share, and a lot can be noticed with our eyes and ears!
  • Bring a bottle of water or hot drink with you for the stroll if you wish.
  • The walk will begin at the Vine Road Recreation Ground near the Pavilion.
  • Please arrive promptly for the event start time.

Please note, dogs will not be admitted at this event except guide dogs. All our events are dog free unless specifically mentioned in the event listing.
