On Sunday 10th November we will be holding our customary Remembrance Sunday work party and observation of two minutes silence at the Barnes Old Cemetery on the Common at Rocks Lane. This year the work party and remembrance will be led by our Chair, Mike Hildesley, and it will be a chance to meet Jessica Barr and Eoin Curtiss who have this year taken on the coordinator role for the Cemetery from Mark Howdle, whom we all wish to thank for his tireless work over the past ten years.
This is an opportunity to remember not only the ten heroes of the Great Wars buried in the Cemetery in private graves (recognised by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission), but also to reflect on all those, in whatever walk of life, who have given their lives for others or who have put or currently are putting their lives at risk for others.
The work party starts at 10.00am – assemble at Rocks Lane Car Park – and will pause at 10.55. Two minutes silence will be observed at 11.00 at the Hedgeman Memorial in the heart of the cemetery, and as many as wish are welcome to join us for that. Coffee and biscuits will be available after that and the work party will then resume until around 12.30. There will be a short guided tour of the war graves for those who wish. Wear warm old clothes and stout footwear. Hand tools and gloves will be provided.
Please register on the event page so we know how many participants to expect.
