Remembering Alison “Ali” Porter

Remembering Alison “Ali” Porter

25th June 1973 – 12th October 2022

Ali threw her energy and organisational skills into Friends of Barnes Common – now Barnes Common – as only she knew how. Her influence was greater than perhaps she knew, helping us transform from a smallish, purely volunteer association into a much larger friends group, within an operational corporate and charitable framework. Her calm, gentle manner, and depth of management skills and experience not only saw new systems introduced, but also forward planning and essential policies, combined with hands on help with Yaffles, events and anything else needed, notably as a highly effective mother/daughter team.

She shared our passion to make the world a better place. We missed her when she felt pressure of work meant she could not contribute as much as she wished as a trustee. We always hoped that one day she would be able to come back to us. Although in truth she never left, remaining a keen Friend and supporter until she was plucked from us, far, far too young.

Our thoughts are with all of her family and friends – hers was a life well lived, no matter that it was far too brief.
