The planning application for the Vine Road Project is now live on the council website and you are welcome to submit your comments in writing. We hope many local residents demonstrate their support of the project – you need to create a document with your comments and then upload it to the planning portal. This exciting community-driven project to rejuvenate this much-loved local open space incorporates a local eco-community hub and café, a redesigned, inclusive playground with water play, a woodland adventure play area, a skate park, food growing and wetland areas. The planning application reference number is PA26/1786.

I support this project overall, and I especially support the following parts of the plan.  

I support the new community hub that will include a cafe, facilities, multi-use hall and offices, which will also be available as a climate refuge and emergencies centre. I think our communityneeds a space like this and can really benefit from it. 

I support the various play and exercise provisions, including the new early years and adventure play for older children, the new water play for early years as well as a splash pad for older children, the new plaza style skate park, and the exercise gym for adults and older people. I think it’s important to provide water play provision for the various age groups. The skate park and exercise gym both fill gaps where nothing similar was available for this age group locally. 

I support the increased community growing space, I believe the growing project is very important for wellbeing and the community, donating the food they grow to the local food bank.  

I support the retention of open space for casual exercise, dog walking, school sports and other activities – it is important that people can continue to use the park for rest and recreation as before. 

I support the new wetland area and the new channel for the brook which works so well on Barnes Green already. More trees and climate resilient plants are also very welcome, it is important to provide natural shade and to make sure the plants will survive the changing climate.
